Provincial Official Calls for Change in China
It happens because the media are still touting that "it is a great accomplishment of the 'reform and open-up' policy. We are witnessing a once-in-a-century big bull market." Of course, it is mainly because you hope it is a big bull market, as do ordinary citizens. However, the reality will turn out to be a big joke for all of us. Today's stock market in China is no longer the market of two years ago, before the "stock reform." China's stock market was initiated in the 1990's. From the very beginning, the stock market has been under the control of the state to raise funds for state-run enterprises and to help with their reforms. At first, it was just a small-scale initial try with many ups and downs as well as behind-the-scene operations. Due to its size, many years of a bear market would not constitute any threat to social and political stability, even if the market fell all the way to the bottom.
Video and Networking Applications Drive the North American Commercial ...
The exponential growth of video services is the most significant driver for the North American commercial geostationary satellite transponder market," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Natalie Bentz. "The growing share of video programming in the market is driven by ethnic and HD channels." With regard to leased transponder capacity share by band in 2006, C-band accounted for 30.2 percent, Ku-band for 69.5 percent, and Ka-band for only 0.2 percent. During the forecast period, supply and demand for Ka-band expects to grow and decrease for C-band capacity. This trend signifies a shift of leased transponder capacity from C-band to Ka-band for applications requiring smaller outdoor units, with higher bandwidth consumption and more efficient use of the spectrum. Intense competition from terrestrial wireline and wireless technologies will limit the penetration that satellite applications can achieve.
Beyond the Point of No Return
To live without at least an open-ended sense of future (even if it's not an optimistic one) is to open one's self to a morass of conflicting impulses — from the anticipated thrill of a reckless plunge into hedonism to a profoundly demoralizing sense of hopelessness and a feeling that a lifelong guiding sense of purpose has suddenly evaporated. This slow-motion collapse of the planet leaves us with the bitterest kind of awakening. For parents of young children, it provokes the most intimate kind of despair. For people whose happiness derives from a fulfilling sense of achievement in their work, this realization feels like a sudden, violent mugging. For those who feel a debt to all those past generations who worked so hard to create this civilization we have enjoyed, it feels like the ultimate trashing of history and tradition.
US threatens to scrap plans for new embassy in Sudan
The daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat published in London reported that Sudanese officials said that they will not release the equipments unless the US administration to unfreeze its assets in the US. Sabir Mohammed Hassan, governor of Sudan Central Bank, asked the visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Linda Thomas Greenfield, specifically to return money confiscated following a ruling by U.S. court that ordered Khartoum to pay some $8 million to the families of U.S. sailors killed in the bombing of an American naval destroyer seven years ago in Yemen. The newspaper said that Greenfield turned down Sudan's request and said that Washington will abandon the new embassy project which incurred $60 million in costs to date. Hassan on his end vowed not to give the US embassy equipments any special consideration.
